Mr Høstgaard-Jensen is the former CEO of ELSAM A/S, the main electricity supplier of Denmark. Rolled up regional electricity generators and networks into one entity, ELSAM A/S. Merged ELSAM A/S and DONG A/S, the national gas supplier. Developed 500 MW of wind farms on- and offshore in Denmark, Poland, United Kingdom, Ireland and France. Established the worlds first utility sized off-shore , (160 MW) wind farm. Developed the 100 MW Kentish Flats, first off-shore wind farm in Britain. Introduced co-firing in ELSAM's generators, using 800k tonnes per year for decentralised heat and electricity. Ran 6 waste fired power stations consuming 40% of Denmark's household waste. Bio-fuels: led the development of VEnzin, a biofuel produced by the excess heat of the power plants and developed a 2nd generation ethanol based on bio-degradable household waste and straw. Member of various power industry associations and societies.
